Vendor Panel: The New Shape of Software Defined Storage

Come listen in as Taneja Group Sr. Analyst Mike Matchett explores the rapidly expanding world of Software Defined Storage with a panel of the hottest SDS vendors in the market. These panelists will no doubt come out swinging with their best definitions of Software Defined - we already know they don't see eye-to-eye. What does a true SDS solution need to offer, and how are they different from each other? How can SDS change the datacenter landscape? Is SDS a pre-req for the SDDC or hybrid cloud? Do we need SDS just to stay competitive as data storage needs continue to grow? Where should you start deploying SDS, or is it mature enough to even start today? Bring your best SDS questions for these panelists as we search for some Software Defined answers.
Hear from the following:

  • Gridstore: Founder & CTO: Kelly Murphy
  • HP: Director, Product Marketing & Management - SDS: Rob Strechay
  • IBM: Director, Storage and SDE Strategy: Sam Werner
  • Red Hat: Product Marketing Lead, Big Data: Irshad Raihan

VMware Virtual Volumes – What impact will they have on the datacenter?

Join us for a fast-paced and informative 60-minute roundtable as we discuss one of the hottest topics in the datacenter: VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes (VVOLs). VVOLs is the industry's first solution to enable native virtual machine-awareness across a broad range of SAN/NAS arrays. VVOLs will be packaged as a feature in VMware vSphere Standard Edition and above as well as in VMware vSphere ROBO editions, and is seeing a groundswell of interest from IT professionals, especially those involved in datacenter operations. The panel includes VVOL experts from four major vendors that have announced they will be implementing VVOLs into their storage. Some of the questions we will be asking them include: What immediate impact will VVOLs have on the datacenter? What should the early adopters look for in a VVOL-based storage solution? Should datacenters start to implement VVOLs right away or wait for VVOL.next?

Tom Fenton, Senior Lab Engineer, Taneja Group
David Glynn, Technical Solutions Engineer, Dell

Using a Public Cloud for DR - Is it for Real?

Join us for this in-depth 60-minute roundtable hosted by Arun Taneja on using public cloud for DR. Enterprises of all sizes have started using the public cloud for some workloads. Backup and recovery and archiving are two prime examples of such workloads. But can the public cloud be used as a disaster recovery site? What are the pros and cons of such an approach? What best practices should apply? Is it only for small businesses that do not have a secondary site of their own? Or is there relevance even for larger organizations?

Panelists:
Ranga Rajagopalan, Director of Product Management; Symantec
Mark Campbell, CMO & CTO; Unitrends
Rick Vanover, Product Strategy Specialist; Veeam
Joshua Stenhouse, Technology Evangelist; Zerto

Private and Hybrid Cloud – What Are Their Roles in a Modern Datacenter?

Join us for this informative 60 minute roundtable as we discuss how private and hybrid clouds fit into the modern datacenter. This panel includes top luminaries from major private and hybrid cloud providers. Some of the questions we will be asking include: Why use private and hybrid clouds instead of public clouds? Are all workloads suitable for these types of clouds? What are the economic factors that play into these types of clouds? Are they a transitional technology or the new normal?

Vendor Panel: How to Avoid Drowning in your Big Data Lake

We know big data is growing and represents a huge opportunity to mine competitive business value. Some even propose landing all corporate data first in a big data lake to make it available for multiple downstream uses. And soon, all your data could be thought of as big data. But what happens with enterprise storage? How do we protect that big data and apply corporate storage governance? How do support storage workflows on the backend? In this panel, we'll discuss some of the hottest trends and newest solutions for storing, protecting, and leveraging big data in the corporate IT data center.

Presenters:
*Mike Matchett, Taneja Group, Senior Analyst & Consultant (Moderator)
*Anant Chintamaneni, BlueData, Vice President of Products
*Vincent Hsu, IBM, Fellow and Storage CTO
*Richard McDougall, VMware, CTO Storage & Availability
