Quest surrounds its data protection platform with an intuitive GUI for SLA-centric management

On June 5th2012, Quest Software announced NetVault® Extended Architecture (XA) that provides a unified experience of managing multiple Quest Software data protection products through a single pane of glass. This offering from Quest Software is targeted at large customers and service provider partners who are currently using or in the future will have multiple Quest Software’s data protection portfolio components. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and Value Added Resellers (VARs) have been a major focus for Quest Software. NetVault XA makes it easier for service providers and resellers to up-sell and cross-sell Quest Software’s data protection products.

NetVault XA is an entirely new offering from Quest Software and adds to its comprehensive data protection portfolio available today. NetVault XA will be rolled out in the second half of this year.

Quest Software’s current data protection offering that include NetVault Backup (Quest Software’s flagship enterprise backup recovery and restore product and its sub-components NetVault FastRecover and NetVault SmartDisk), vRanger, LiteSpeed, Recovery Manager, and SharePlex are purpose-built to solve specific needs, and hence, will still be available as modular components to allow Quest Software’s customers to purchase only what they need when they need it.

NetVault XA is engineered to be a services-centric data protection solution that enables single-console management of Quest Software’s data protection portfolio components. The user interface allows administrators to organize, schedule, view, and manage backups based on specific RTOs, RPOs, and application SLAs. In addition, NetVault XA delivers a customized experience for DBAs, application administrators, and VMware administrators across multiple roles to customize the views and workflows and map them directly to the specific SLAs associated with their particular role. We expect that all data protection suppliers will ultimately provide a consolidated, role-based user interface. It is simply the way to go.

With NetVault XA, administrators have direct visibility into the recoverability of the specific IT services they are responsible for managing, and are able to leverage specialized data protection tools to perform granular, platform-specific backup and recovery tasks – all without sacrificing the convenience and simplicity of single-console management.

Quest Software has been one of the best kept secrets in data protection and has silently amassed 55 thousand data protection customers and is consistently on the short list of enterprise customers looking for a data protection solution. We believe Quest management has decided internally not to be the best kept secret any longer. Expect to see a lot of fireworks from them in the coming months.
